The Boyfriend Basics: The Golden Relationship Rules

?Many of us have incredibly high expectations when it comes to how we want our guy to think, feel and behave. While nobody is perfect, there are some basic things to look for that can help to determine whether or not "Mr. Right" is worth pursuing.

1. Honesty. Honesty is simply the most foundational part of any relationship. If you can't trust him, what's the point with anything else?

2. Fidelity. Cheating should not be an issue in any relationship, and most girls can tell pretty early on whether or not a guy has a tendency to wander.

3. Giving. Ask yourself if he gives you what you need in terms of his time, attention and affection. If you're frustrated with what you are getting, chances are this is what you can expect in the future.

4. Communicative. A good and solid relationship is full of open and fair communication, and every one has their idea of what that should be. Are you fulfilled by what he has to offer?

5. Romantic. This should be obvious, but romantic compatibility is essential, and you and your man will need to be on the same page with this as well.

6. Same values. Every couple needs a strong foundation in order to weather the ebbs and flows of life. Having the same values is one of the biggest contributors to bringing two hearts together over time.

7. Similar vision. You and your boyfriend need to be on the same page about your future plans if you want a successful relationship.

8. Family matters. How well do you get along with his family? How well does yours get along with him?

9. Money issues. He needs to meet your job and income standards in addition to being financially responsible.

10. Does he love you? Really, does anything else matter in the end?
